My Latest Hobby: Do you know to draw or paint? No. Then u can do this!! The world in black and white!!! We cant imagine right?. There starts the liveliness of colors. One of the hobbies which is highly tied to me is drawing and painting, simply because you just need a pair of brushes and a dozen colors of paint and two dozens of patience to show your love for colors. There have been times, from my school days, when I used to dream about exploring things which I always loved to do. The list of pastime activities has always grown over the years. Being a girl, the list also included household chores. But I always had time to paint. My Passion has evolved over time as I grew. Started with crayons, pencils colors, sketches to water colors, poster colors, Acrylic colors, Fabric colors to Glass colors. My fascination for the new medium of colors at each stage always grew. The quality of colors changed and I wonder what will be the next new medium of colors I will be end up in. As the list says, I am currently in to glass painting. I browsed through the net and studied videos on You Tube to learn about glass painting. Never had any formal training in painting, but have great love for it. Initially my boring days and sleepless nights were taken care of by my brushes and colors, which are transformed in to paintings today. Very soon painting was on priority on my leisure time activities. You get so involved in something, that you start searching for designs and patterns in mom saree, curtain cloths, invitations, and colorful paper ads and in all the things around you. It just started as a hobby, but now with my growing interest and variety of mediums in painting, it looks like a viable future to fall back in times of crisis. 1. The process of painting on a glass is simple. Buy a glass clean it with vinegar and wipe it with a clean cloth to dry. Decide on a sketch which you want to draw. Take a printout of the sketch. Place the sketch beneath the glass and start tracing it on the glass with a glass liner. You don’t need to know drawing. Keep the glass aside from any disturbance for 24 hours. Start filling the sketch on the glass with glass colors. One has to just squeeze the glass color from the bottle and the liquid will just spread over inside the liner boundaries. You don’t need to know painting. Only think to be noted while filling the color is, not to allow bubbles to appear while squeezing. If bubbles appear break the bubble at once with a brush or a sharp needle. Allow it to dry for 48 hours. Hold the glass against the sunlight and enjoy the Kaleidoscope of colors. Fit the glass for the window, the painting will look beautiful when light comes through the glass. During nights, the painting will look good, when an artificial light is set at the other side of the window. Glass being a transparent medium, where the light can penetrate the glass, the best use of it lives in glass doors and windows. Another simple way, like any other painting, is to frame the glass with a white paper behind and hang it on a wall, so that during day and night the light will be reflected back from the painting to showcase the vivid colors!!! Off course the point of using a glass medium is lost here!!! Similarly one can paint the borders for a mirror with the glass paint or even on a glass tumbler or on a glass lampshade. A person’s creativity is the limit. Start exploring with glasses and you will end up finding yourself somewhere else, and being someone else too!!! My first glass painting was a peacock, since you can play with all the colors on it. My second one was a Pegasus horse. Now I am into doing an angel on glass. My next venture is into mural painting, where you bring the sceneries of orlando vacation homes, lively on walls. I got inspired on this from painting on the street walls of Chennai. Hope my mom is not going to shout at me for spoiling my room walls!! Happy painting.
